Here’s a rough review of some of the boxing gyms I’ve been to over the past week and I wanna get it done while it’s still fresh in my mind. I’ll be starting off with the pretty decent gyms and end of with, of course, the gym which I ultimately decided to sign up with.

Review:
First up we have, in my opinion, the most popular and ”over-hyped” gym in Singapore. Evolve is supposingly the “no.1” mixed martial arts gym given the hype that it has created from Angela Lee, the MMA world champion. Many celebrities such as Benjamin Kheng from the Sam Williows is also a student at Evolve. Apart from the excessive publicity, most of the trainers at Evolve are Thai which has it pros and cons. The obvious ones would be that the skills and techniques taught would be authentic yet at the same time, it was hard for me to understand what trainer was trying to tell me.
I applied for a free trial through their webpage, which I will leave a link below later, and also indicated that I wanted to know the rates for their classes. Apparently, one of the guys there gave me a call and asked me to head down for a trial class and that they “do not reveal the rates” over the phone. While the guy was quite friendly (I mean who wouldn’t be if they wanted you to join their gym), I found it kinda odd because other gyms have their rates publicised openly on their websites.
I went down to the outlet at Orchard Central, and everything seemed to be so rush maybe because I happened to turn up late by 5 minutes. The trial was a 1-to-1 session lasting about 45mins. And although I indicated boxing on the trial form, the trainer was actually teaching me muay thai due to the use of elbows and kicks and all that. It was a short but intense session and yea once the trainer was done he just hand over me to the other guy and left. Yea, didn’t hang around for a small talk or whatsoever, unlike some gyms I visited.
The outlet at Orchard Central was really classy, they had a really nice restroom (without any benches lol) and they have a really big compound. I would say that their class size are quite huge even at off peak hours even though they have many classes a day.
All in all, Evolve MMA is a no go for me due to the exorbitant rates and the environment I guess (doesn’t feel welcoming and there are just so many stares at you and it’s disturbing) ? But if you’re looking for a classy and renowned gym to train, then this is the gym for you. Since they do not disclose their rates. feel free to leave ur contact details and I’ll get back to you if you would like to know their rates.
Do check out their website link for the schedules, classes offered and of course, to sign up for a free trial: https://evolve-mma.com

Located just 5 mins walk away from Clarke Quay Station, Legends Fight Sport is a place for people who are looking for a more personalised group training and a gym that has a cosier and friendly environment. The trainers here are easy to talk to and all of them are locals, thus communication will not be an issue.
I attended the 730am class with only 3 people including me. Hafiz, the coach, was really nice, friendly and most importantly, patient and he focused a lot on the basics, such as the position of the hands and legs, as well as the movements. The session took up a full one hour and I found it quite productive. At the end of the session, I managed to talk to Hafiz about how the classes are like and was told that class size don’t usually go too huge. Even when the class gets a bit crowded, there will be additional coaches to ensure that everyone is given the attention they needed so no one will be left out.
The restroom is like a normal toilet with only one with shower and one cubicle. The gym is located at the 3rd floor and it is kind of small, though there is a small corner of the room with weights and benches and all that stuff.
Didn’t manage to get a picture of the gym but below is the rates for membership at Legends.

Review:
The Ring would have been on first on my list if not for the fact that it was located quite a distance for me (I took 1h20mins to get here from Pioneer). Nothing could have been better here. The restrooms were as classy or even classier than Evolve or Vanda. It was quite spacious with a boxing ring in the middle (I mean it wouldn’t be called The Ring without the ring…) There’s an abundance of punching bags for both muay thai and boxing, as well as, a full-fledged gym for the members to use anytime.
It wasn’t too packed at The Ring too probably because I once again attended a morning session. I believe the trainer that morning was Chouaib, a Russian I think. Chouaib was again really friendly and patient (things to look out for in a trainer), but his accent was a little bit too heavy for me to understand some of the things he say. Most of the boxers here are not local, unlike muay thai.
